{"id":161,"date":"2010-02-08T17:17:19","date_gmt":"2010-02-08T17:17:19","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.wensmedia.com\/\/salesarchive\/permalink\/2010\/2\/8\/121719.html"},"modified":"2010-02-08T17:17:19","modified_gmt":"2010-02-08T17:17:19","slug":"timing-is-everything","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ensmediausa.com\/ens-on-sales\/uncategorized\/timing-is-everything\/","title":{"rendered":"Timing is Everything"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><font face=\"Arial\"><b><span style=\"font-size: 22pt\">Timing Is Everything<\/span><\/b><\/font><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><font face=\"Arial\">&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Killing time can murder your future.<br \/>\n<span style=\"color: black\">&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; During the next few weeks, many sales reps will catch the holiday spirit; a spirit that can cause them to &lsquo;kill time&rsquo;.<br \/>\n&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; We have all heard the excuses for slow bookings in December.&nbsp; Excuses like;&nbsp; &ldquo;My clients are too busy with Christmas sales to see me&rdquo; or, &ldquo;I&rsquo;m too busy servicing my retailers and making copy changes in December to make long-term proposals.&rdquo;<\/span>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;There are many more excuses, but let me give you a dose of reality.&nbsp; <br \/>\n&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; We monitor thousands of advertiser responses to our SoundADvice radio e-marketing system every week. &nbsp;Last week, we noticed a marked increase in advertisers requesting proposals (RFP&rsquo;s) for the period between now and January 8<sup>th<\/sup>. <br \/>\n&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; We surveyed some of the advertisers requesting proposals and discovered several trends, including;<br \/>\n&nbsp;&nbsp; &middot;<\/font><span style=\"font-weight: normal; font-size: 7pt; font-style: normal; font-family: Arial; font-variant: normal\">&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; <\/span><font face=\"Arial\">72% of non-retail business owners (i.e. lawyers, landscapers, insurance brokers, etc.) said they use the slow December period to plan their next year.<br \/>\n<span style=\"color: black\">&nbsp;&nbsp; &middot;<\/span><\/font><span style=\"font-weight: normal; font-size: 7pt; color: black; font-style: normal; font-family: Arial; font-variant: normal\">&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; <\/span><font face=\"Arial\">69% of all of the RFP&rsquo;s <span style=\"color: black\">generated by our SoundADvice wanted either; <br \/>\n&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; a.) &ldquo;something different&rdquo;<br \/>\n&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;or <br \/>\n&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; b.) &ldquo;something cost effective&rdquo; <br \/>\n<\/span><b><i>By the way, if you aren&rsquo;t super-serving <span style=\"color: black\">your key accounts, the &ldquo;something different&rdquo; they may be considering is be<\/span> dropping your stations!<br \/>\n<\/i><\/b>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; So here is the bottom line. &nbsp;While your competitors are &lsquo;killing time&rsquo; and have &lsquo;holiday head&rsquo;, the timing is right for you build your future and capture more 52-week orders over the next five weeks!&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/font><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><font face=\"Arial\">P.S. You also need to present NOW or sooner for the Boxing Week sales and January Clearances.&nbsp; And, what about the New Year&rsquo;s Resolution Market?&nbsp; Most consumers will resolve to get fit, quit smoking, eat healthier, take a night course or learn to paint or play guitar between December 26<sup>th<\/sup> and January 30<sup>th<\/sup>.<br \/>\nThese are emotional decisions your clients can influence on radio.<\/font><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><font face=\"Arial\">P.P.S.
