The first group of students was thrown into the freezing water with that belief.<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt\"><span style=\"font-family: Tahoma\"><span>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; In reality, it takes 35 to 40 minutes for hypothermia to take its toll. The second group of students was thrown into the freezing water with that knowledge.<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt\"><span style=\"font-family: Tahoma\"><span>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Invariably, the first group made choices out of fear and panic&hellip;.choices which<span style=\"color: black\">,<\/span> under real life scenarios would have cost them their lives.<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt\"><span style=\"font-family: Tahoma\"><span>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; The students who understood they had time to think ahead<span style=\"color: black\">,<\/span> consistently made better choices than their panicked counterparts.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; <\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt\"><span style=\"font-family: Tahoma\"><span>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; The absence of vision, commitment and long<span style=\"color: black\">-term<\/span> goals for your stations can also result in panic choices which can be fatal.<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt\"><span style=\"font-family: Tahoma\"><span>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;Are you committed to a long<span style=\"color: black\">&#8211;<\/span>term plan for your business survival? Or are you making panic decisions under pressure? <\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"margin: 0in 0in 12pt\"><font face=\"Tahoma\">&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Your advertisers are reading<\/font><span style=\"font-family: Verdana\"> newsletters and blogs which suggest they should <span style=\"color: black\">&ldquo;<\/span>take advantage of this downturn <span style=\"color: black\">and<\/span> put the heat on media suppliers<span style=\"color: black\">&rdquo;<\/span>.<br \/>\n&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; That <span style=\"color: black\">&ldquo;heat&rdquo;<\/span>has caused some broadcasters to sell at rates below break-even. We&rsquo;ve all heard the joke about the widget manufacturer who was losing five dollars per widget but planned to <span style=\"color: black\">&ldquo;make it up on volume&rdquo;.<br \/>\n<\/span><\/span><font face=\"Tahoma\">&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Even in good times, far too many sales managers let the bottom right hand corner of a broadcast order influence them to sell at a loss.&nbsp;You <span style=\"color: black\">cannot<\/span>sell at a loss and <span style=\"color: black\">&ldquo;<\/span>make it up on volume<span style=\"color: black\">&rdquo;<\/span>! <br \/>\n&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Selling at a loss not only hurts your stations, but in the long <span style=\"color: black\">run,<\/span>hurts advertisers.<br \/>\n&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Cutting your rates will inevitably cause cuts in service to your advertisers and to your audiences. As those cuts impact audiences negatively, advertisers will find it increasingly difficult to find a media that has enough reach and influence to achieve their goals. <br \/>\n&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Our biggest selling job has always been internal, not external.
