{"id":194,"date":"2009-03-01T15:48:38","date_gmt":"2009-03-01T15:48:38","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.wensmedia.com\/\/salesarchive\/permalink\/2009\/3\/1\/104838.html"},"modified":"2009-03-01T15:48:38","modified_gmt":"2009-03-01T15:48:38","slug":"make-mantra","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ensmediausa.com\/ens-on-sales\/uncategorized\/make-mantra\/","title":{"rendered":"Make Mantra"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-family: Arial\"><b><span style=\"font-size: 22pt\">Make Ma<span style=\"color: black\">n<\/span>tra<\/span><\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<div style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial\">&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Albert Einstein said, &ldquo;Genius is making the complicated look simple.&rdquo;<\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial\">I attended the Radio Ink Convergence Conference in San Jose<span style=\"color: black\">,<\/span> California last week,and by Einstein<span style=\"color: black\">&rsquo;<\/span>s definition, the conference key note, Guy Kawasaki, is a genius.<\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial\">&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Throughout my career I&rsquo;ve been telling media sales people that if you focus on getting results for your client<span style=\"color: black\">s,<\/span> the money will magically follow you. &nbsp;I called <span style=\"color: black\">it &ldquo;putting on your ad manager&rsquo;s hat&rdquo; and presenting a campaign that will work for the client.<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial\">&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; I&rsquo;ve gone through gyrations to prove that focusing on selling tactics and this month&rsquo;s budget won&rsquo;t be as successful as learning how to create results for your clients and building strong customer relationships.<\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial\">&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; But Guy Kawasaki made it simple when he said<span style=\"color: black\">,<\/span> &ldquo;Make ma<span style=\"color: black\">n<\/span>tra, not money.&rdquo;<\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial\">Guy, the author of nine successful business books including Reality Check and The MacIntosh Way, led the Apple charge against domination by IBM.<\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial\">&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; He astutely observed that the companies which had the most growth in the last ten years are those that set out to &lsquo;make the world a better place&rsquo;, not those that had a business plan focused on making money. <\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial\">&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; From creating more user-friendly computers to creating Facebook-style chat lines for friends to keep in touch, the money does follow those who help others.<\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt; text-indent: 0.5in\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial\">This isn&rsquo;t new. &nbsp;Motivational speaker, Zig Ziglar, always said, &ldquo;You can get everything in life you want if you will just help enough other people get what they want.&rdquo; <\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial\">&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; But Guy&rsquo;s genius made it simpler. &ldquo;Make mantra, not money<span style=\"color: black\">.&rdquo;<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial\">He also suggests that we get rid of complicated mission statements with all of the business buzzwords and that we make simple ma<span style=\"color: black\">nt<\/span>ra with just three words.
