It seems like a silly little question, and in some ways it is.\u00a0But it can also have a profound impact, and just might be so obvious that it catches them off guard and captures their attention.<\/p>\n
When you\u2019re calling on a new business and about to start your \u201cCNA\u201d meeting, just as you take out your notepad or computer, ask the person,\u00a0\u201cDo you mind if I take notes?\u201d<\/p>\n
Of course, their answer will always be, ”\u00a0Yes\u00a0“, or \u201cI don\u2019t mind at all\u201d.\u00a0While it seems obvious that you would take notes, it\u2019s the subliminal message you send that has an impact.\u00a0It tells the prospect you are engaged, ready to listen, serious about what you do, and that you are focused. This is also a good point to assure them, or reassure them, that everything you discuss is confidential.<\/p>\n
Throughout the questions and answers, if you miss something, don\u2019t be afraid to ask, \u201cCan you repeat that?\u201d or \u201cDid I hear you correctly?\u201d.\u00a0Then restate what you thought they said.\u00a0Again, this little sign of being really engaged can often give them the confidence that you are really there to help them, and that you are a professional.<\/p>\n
You\u2019ve heard the expression, \u201clittle things mean a lot\u201d.\u00a0When you\u2019re asking business owners to spend their hard-earned dollars with you, it\u2019s more than just an expression.\u00a0The \u201clittle things\u201d are often what determine whether they trust you enough to say \u201cyes\u201d to your recommendations. After all, what they are really saying \u201cyes\u201d to … is YOU!<\/p>\n
