Data contained in a recent Harvard Business Review report (see <span style=\"mso-bidi-font-style: italic\"><a title=\"http:\/\/harvardbusinessonline.hbsp.harvard.edu\/hbsp\/hbr\/articles\/article.jsp;jsessionid=JL3HC1YTROTVOAKRGWDSELQBKE0YIISW?ml_action=get-article&amp;articleID=F0806A&amp;ml_page=1&amp;ml_subscriber=true\" href=\"http:\/\/harvardbusinessonline.hbsp.harvard.edu\/hbsp\/hbr\/articles\/article.jsp;jsessionid=JL3HC1YTROTVOAKRGWDSELQBKE0YIISW?ml_action=get-article&amp;articleID=F0806A&amp;ml_page=1&amp;ml_subscriber=true\"><span style=\"color: windowtext; text-decoration: none; text-underline: none\">The Athena Factor: Reversing the Brain Drain in Science, Engineering, and Technology<\/span><\/a>,<\/span> June 2008) shows that when female executives wrestle with stormy weather, corporate cultures<span style=\"color: red\"> <\/span>can be unforgiving. Women are seriously isolated, without mentors, sponsors or the equivalent of the &lsquo;old boys&rsquo; network&rsquo;.<span style=\"color: red\"><span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes\">&nbsp; <\/span><\/span>They find it impossible to rally support in the wake of failure. More so than men, they crash and burn. &ldquo;<\/i><\/font><\/span><span lang=\"EN\" style=\"font-size: 9pt; font-family: Arial; mso-ansi-language: EN\"> <o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt\"><font face=\"Tahoma\">My experience has been the reverse, but maybe it is <u>because<\/u> <i style=\"mso-bidi-font-style: normal\">&ldquo;<\/i><i style=\"mso-bidi-font-style: normal\"><span lang=\"EN\" style=\"mso-ansi-language: EN\">Women are seriously isolated, without mentors or sponsors or the equivalent of the old boys&#8217; network&rdquo;<span style=\"color: red\"> <\/span><\/span><\/i><span lang=\"EN\" style=\"mso-ansi-language: EN\">and they have more to prove.<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/font><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt\"><span lang=\"EN\" style=\"font-family: Arial; mso-ansi-language: EN\"><o:p>&nbsp;<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt\"><span lang=\"EN\" style=\"mso-ansi-language: EN\"><font face=\"Tahoma\">Whenever I have the fortunate experience of working with a sales team comprised of half male and half female executives (don&rsquo;t shoot the messenger, guys) and we run a &lsquo;guys against the girls&rsquo; sales contest, the women <u>always<\/u> win!<o:p><\/o:p><\/font><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt\"><span lang=\"EN\" style=\"font-family: Arial; mso-ansi-language: EN\"><o:p>&nbsp;<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt\"><span lang=\"EN\" style=\"mso-ansi-language: EN\"><font face=\"Tahoma\">Of course we take extra pains to ensure the contest is based upon a level playing field, but here are some of my theories regarding reasons the women consistently outperform the men.<o:p><\/o:p><\/font><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt\"><span lang=\"EN\" style=\"font-family: Arial; mso-ansi-language: EN\"><o:p>&nbsp;<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt\"><span lang=\"EN\" style=\"mso-ansi-language: EN\"><font face=\"Tahoma\">1.) They have more to prove.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes\">&nbsp; <\/span>It wasn&rsquo;t that long ago that our sales and management culture was male dominated, and women are out to prove they are more than equals and can compete.<o:p><\/o:p><\/font><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt\"><span lang=\"EN\" style=\"mso-ansi-language: EN\"><font face=\"Tahoma\">2.) The best sales people have empathy with their clients. They are good listeners and focus on the customer.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes\">&nbsp; <\/span>I know it is politically incorrect to suggest that women&rsquo;s maternal instincts are more naturally inclined to care about their customers&rsquo; success, but in my experience this seems to be the case. <o:p><\/o:p><\/font><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt\"><span lang=\"EN\" style=\"mso-ansi-language: EN\"><font face=\"Tahoma\">3.) More often than not, women are better organized than men, meaning their attention to detail and follow-through is often superior.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes\">&nbsp; <\/span>I&rsquo;d hate to think of<span style=\"color: red\"> <\/span>what would happen if Angela didn&rsquo;t run my office and I was left at the mercy of my own organizational skills!<o:p><\/o:p><\/font><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt\"><span lang=\"EN\" style=\"mso-ansi-language: EN\"><font face=\"Tahoma\">4.) Most top executives and decision makers today are males.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes\">&nbsp; <\/span>Most males were brought up to be more courteous to the female gender and therefore often open the door to meeting with a female where a male might not get through.<o:p><\/o:p><\/font><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt\"><span lang=\"EN\" style=\"font-family: Arial; mso-ansi-language: EN\"><o:p>&nbsp;<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt\"><font face=\"Tahoma\">P.S.
